John Borlace has become the thirteenth employee at Rubb Buildings Ltd to receive a commemorative watch for 25 years of service.

The 13 loyal members of staff, most of whom all still work for Rubb, have together contributed more than 325 years to working for the Gateshead-based company. John, who celebrates his sixtieth birthday this month (July), was presented with an Omega Constellation watch at the building manufacturing plant on the Team Valley Trading Estate.

The fitter/welder from Gateshead said: "It's a lovely watch." John plays a key role in the manufacture and installation of Rubb's custom made relocatable engineered fabric structures. His first project on site was erecting a steel framed fabric covered building for a plastics company in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester. His most recent installation job saw Rubb return to the Falkland Islands to build a storage facility for Byron Marine. John said: "The buildings have improved over the years and most of them are custom designed, which is good from the customers' point of view."

His highlights include the first demonstration of Rubb's Rapid Erect Hangar System at RAF Stafford and erecting the first prototype of Rubb's Expeditionary Forces Aircraft Shelter System (EFASS) at the company's UK plant in Gateshead. He has also delivered numerous training events to RAF 5001 Squadron, which is responsible for installing Rubb military hangars for the UK Ministry of Defence at home and overseas.

Office Manager Liz Spurr has organised all the commemoration events and explained: "The first watch was presented to MD Bill Wood in 2002. The company believes that 25 years of dedicated service is a long time and something to be celebrated." Past recipients include Bill Wood, Ian Mackley, Ron Adams, Ray Colby, Michael Halpin Snr, Joe Ross, Billy Waugh, Stan Pinchen, Gary Spragg, Carol Clelland, Liz Spurr and Michael Anthony-Mote.
