Rubb Buildings Ltd is proud to support the Trade Group 5 Golf Championships for the ninth year – and this year we entered our very own team and were warmly welcomed into this popular TG5 event.

The mission of the annual TG5 Golf event is to achieve personal development through sporting endeavours. It presents an excellent opportunity for people to play golf to very high standard and foster the relationships between all RAF TG5 personnel employed across the 14 units represented at this year’s event.

The Championships traditionally take the form of both team and individual events run along the lines of the tried and trusted format of 36 holes of Stableford handicap golf. The tournament is played over two days at Greetham Valley Golf Club.

This event is sponsored by various companies including Rubb, which have a direct involvement within the TG5 military capability (General Engineering: Mechanical and Electrical). This sponsorship allows for the provision of the same high standard of prizes and trophies that have been traditionally awarded over the previous years.

Robby Boyce, Competition Consultant and Treasurer said: “It was indeed a pleasure to welcome a team representing Rubb Buildings Ltd for the very first time this year. They have kindly sponsored the RAF Trade Group 5 Golf Championships over the past nine years. Rubb's involvement has always been extremely welcome and without the company’s generous support the Championships would not have survived in its current format. Hopefully the team from Rubb felt that they where made very welcome, and were well represented by Grant Davidson, who came runner-up in the individual competition.”

Grant said: “Things started well. I was up against Mike Rodrigues (from Leeming), Danny Jones (Brize and ‘Waddo’) and Nick Payne (Marham). The banter started pretty quickly and stepped up at the 11th hole.”

Grant scored the longest drive at the 11th hole and went into day two with 37 points after winning his group’s first round. He faced fierce competition in round two from Danny Burke (Benson), James Emmott (Leeming) and Matt Pope (Henlow/MDSS CAM), but still earned group first place with 38 points.>

Grant said: “I think it was very worthwhile and everyone knew who Rubb was, what we do and about our long standing relationship providing military buildings to the MoD. It was great to get involved in this event.”

Fellow team member and Rubb Sales Manager Andy Knox added: “The day ended with a lovely carvery and a brief presentation that included Grant Davidson winning the longest drive and finishing second overall in the individuals’ category. Team Rubb finished a respectful fifth overall, much higher than expected and setting the expectations for next year’s 10th anniversary.

“I was proud to be associated with it through Rubb, whose sponsorship over the last few years has helped support a massively important event that these guys need to have on their calendar. As always I tip my hat to the forces and if this is our small way to say thank you for what they do, I think the gesture is very much appreciated.”
