Rubb in the running for manufacturing award

Rubb Buildings Ltd is proud to have been shortlisted for the Tyneside and Northumberland heats of the North East Business Awards.

After judges assessed hundreds of entries, the finalists have been chosen for 12 categories. Rubb has made the final three for the Manufacturing Award, which is sponsored by the University of Sunderland. The judging panel came to visit Rubb’s design and manufacturing facility at Gateshead’s Team Valley Trading Estate on February 6, 2015.

Rubb Buildings Ltd is a leading specialist in the design, manufacture and construction of relocatable and permanent engineered fabric buildings for a wide variety of sectors. Highlights include ground-breaking military hangars, sunshades, shelters, warehouses and workshops, custom designed specialist sport buildings and storage structures for a variety of markets including aviation, ports, emergency relief, energy, construction, industrial bulk storage and environmental.

All design, structural engineering, fabrication, production and construction are completed in-house by a dedicated team of long-serving staff, alongside new up-and-coming engineering talent – Rubb recruited a new apprentice in 2014 along with three welder/fabricators.

Managing Director Ian Hindmoor said: “I am delighted that Rubb has been shortlisted for this award. It is testament to the hard work and dedication the team has contributed to the business. Moving forward we will continue to grow and improve our products and services. I am sure 2015 will be exciting for everyone involved.”

In 2014 business really took off in the aviation sector with Rubb providing aircraft hangars for Aerohub at Newquay Airport, the National Police Air Service at Bournemouth Airport, and NHV at Wick John O’Groats Airport. Rubb continues to support the UK MoD by providing military buildings at home and overseas. Turnover increased from £3.7m in 2013 to £7.1m in 2014 - an increase of 91%. The sale team also exceeded their target by 18% in 2014.

Rubb is committed to continuous improvement in our processes and product designs. Working together with our employees, suppliers and customers, our long-term goal is ongoing improvement in environmental performance. This is enhanced by further development of our sustainable and 95% recyclable building systems and 'Texyloop' PVC recycling processes. Rubb is also dedicated to building on quality and safety standards.

The winners will be announced at the Marriot Hotel at Gosforth Park on February 26.

The annual event is organised by The Journal and The Gazette. It is held in association with the North East Chamber of Commerce and aims to highlight the inspiring work of businesses throughout the past 12 months.

The Tyneside and Northumberland heat is the first of three sub-regional events, with Durham and Wearside taking place on March 12 at Ramside Hall in Durham and the Teesside awards at Teesside University on March 26. Winners from each of the three heats will then go to the regional finals at Hardwick Hall Hotel at Sedgefield on April 23.
