Rubb help Associated British Ports recharge storage plans

Rubb returned to Southampton after 20 years to support AB Ports with the storage and charging of their forklift truck fleet.

The Port of Southampton is located on the south coast of England, close to international shipping lanes. The port is less than 100 miles from mainland Europe, making Southampton one of the UK's leading ports. The port specialises in cruises, RoRo and ferries, container shipping, dry cargo, fresh produce, liquid bulks, offshore wind, automotive, general cargo and development opportunities.

Associated British Ports Southampton wanted to reposition their forklift charging facility and contacted Rubb for advice and help with planning the project. The original facility was a Rubb THA shelter, which had been in use for 20 years. The shelter was originally purchased as a temporary solution, but due to the durable nature of all Rubb shelters, this storage facility has withstood the test of time. The shelter had been used every day at the port and still had its original PVC cladding.

After working with the Rubb team it was decided that a new shelter was the best answer for moving forward with the relocation. Rubb supplied a special 12m span THA shelter which measured 30m long. The shelter was equipped with two fire exit doors (one in the sidewall), one main 3m wide x 3m high roller shutter door in the gable and 26 fresh air ventilation louvres, running down each sidewall of the building.

The Rubb THA structure is constructed with a hot dip galvanized steel framework to protect it against corrosion. The covering membrane is fabricated from high tenacity PVC polyester fabric, which is tensioned over the frame. The shelter was specified with blue PVC for sidewalls and gables, and a white translucent roof, creating a naturally bright internal working environment and saving on lighting costs.
