InfraStrata, who purchased Belfast’s Harland and Wolff last December, are the site’s new owners. They chose to invest in Appledore as the yard is geared towards smaller vessels, which is a “market segment that cannot be ignored”.
Though the site currently has only one employee, the workforce can be “very quickly ramped up” to meet incoming contacts. Discussions with the government and private vessels are already underway.
Under this new ownership, the shipyard will be renamed to Harland and Wolff Appledore, retaining its historic name established in 1963.
Rubb has previously worked with Belfast’s Harland and Wolff, having designed, manufactured and erected two 30m span x 35m length crane-liftable buildings to cover offshore pile clusters in March 2013.
