Engineering a career in sales and marketing…

Grant Davidson has joined the sales team at Rubb Buildings Ltd, UK.

The dynamic new Sales Executive started out as a Sales and Marketing Trainee at Rotational Engineering Ltd, a leading steel tool maker, while working towards his BA Hons degree in Marketing Management at the University of Northumbria.

The company owned by his parents was the ideal training ground where Grant gained practical experience in engineering, sales and marketing. He worked there three consecutive summers before completing his degree in 2010 and landing a job at Astrum (UK) Ltd. Astrum designs and manufactures track solutions for Armoured Fighting Vehicles. There Grant developed his sales and marketing skills including enquiry and quotation management, exhibition organisation and attendance, improving knowledge of engineering, creation of marketing media and liaising with key defence procurement personnel.

Grant said: “I was brought up in an engineering business environment and it always appealed to me. I wanted to make my own way in life. I used to help out at Rotational but it was never an ambition to stay long term. I took on a variety of different roles at Astrum and developed my sales and marketing skills there. I gained experience dealing with the defence sector and long term supply contracts. Liaising with defence professionals takes time and patience but it is worth it in the end.”

Grant is a welcome addition to the sales team at Rubb Buildings Ltd, which has a long 34-year history providing military buildings to the UK Ministry of Defence. Rubb also supplies its respected Expeditionary Forces Aircraft Shelter System (EFASS) to the USA, Canadian and UAE forces. The company provides a wide range of building solutions to other sectors including sport, aviation and general industry.

Rubb’s new Sales Executive added: “I am looking forward to working with the experienced team at Rubb and building on the skills I have learnt in my short career so far to help drive Rubb towards an even brighter future.”

A keen sportsman, Grant plays for his local rugby club Wallsend RFC. He raised money for the Percy Hedley Foundation by doing the Great North Run in 2011. Grant also enjoys golf, skiing and travelling. His travels earned him a Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award for completing a six-week expedition to Ecuador where his group climbed two volcanoes, spent one week building a school playground and three weeks trekking. He will receive his award at St James’ Palace on March 14 2012.

Rubb UK’s General Manager Ian Hindmoor said: “We think Grant will bring a wide range of sales and marketing skills to the company and that he will be an asset to the team. We are delighted to welcome him on board.”
