Rubb delivers ‘mammoth’ MRO facility for AAR

Rubb USA has successfully completed its largest Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility to date at Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD), serving AAR’s operational needs.

The facility features two expansive hangars, each measuring 91.44 metres in length, 91.44 metres in clear span, and 12.19 metres in sidewall height, with a central height of 30.48 metres. These dimensions provide unobstructed space, enabling efficient operations for large aircraft, including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747.

The hangars incorporate Thermohall® insulated fabric, ensuring energy efficiency and low maintenance. Equipped with five-panel Assa Abloy Megadoors, the facility enables seamless aircraft access and cost-effective climate control. The translucent cladding allows natural light to enter, creating an optimal work environment while reducing lighting costs.

This one-of-a-kind building is truly mammoth as an MRO facility. It’s impressive from the inside and practical for all kinds of repair.

Reliable innovation

This 24-hour operational facility spans over 18,580 square metres and provides state-of-the-art repair capabilities for commercial aviation. Designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, the structure ensures uninterrupted operations and optimal working conditions for the 500 skilled workers employed on-site.

The project is a collaboration between Rubb, Assa Abloy Megadoor, Larson & Darby architects, and RFD. This facility represents a milestone in Rubb’s history, showcasing advancements in efficient, durable, and innovative aviation solutions tailored to client needs.
