#TeamRubb Bike For Bobby Challenge

#teamrubb was originally set up to give back to local charities by undertaking various “challenges” whilst utilising the Rubb Buildings brand as a platform to collectively promote, socialise and back what should be an enjoyable experience and memory for all involved.

Bike for Bobby was our first venture; a 40 mile bike ride around Newcastle and Northumberland for The Robbie Elliott Foundation. The Foundation is dedicated to raising money for charities involved in the research and treatment of cancer. The charities that will be benefiting from this particular venture will be The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Starting line B4B

As you can imagine it didn’t take long for the competitive nature to come out amongst the team, with some members secretly dieting and some sneaking in extra training runs and some even throwing around a little bit of “smack talk”, but it was all taken as it was meant, in good fun and overall it added to the spirit of the team.

Our first #teamrubb training ride was at Keilder Water on the The Lakeside Way route. This is a modest 26 mile route that should be and I quote “an easy route to blow the cobwebs off.” Well somebody did a great job selling that route because easy wouldn’t be the word I would have used to describe it. Nevertheless despite seeing four different seasons of weather in a few hours, we did see some stunning views along with a couple of deer and unfortunately one member of the team in some really bad lycra!

Another training run saw #teamrubb take on a section of the coast to coast route. With a couple of collisions between team members and someone’s seat falling off, I was starting to wonder if this was such a good idea. However once people picked themselves up and after some world class Rubb engineering, we managed to handle our repairs and peddled on.

Over all we had gear failures, punctures, brake failures, wrong turns, savage midge attacks and a couple of crashes but most importantly we had our first outing as #teamrubb. If nothing else a good laugh and hopefully a first of many more outings.

Although we have yet to count the final sum, early indications are that we have met our target of £1,500. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported us.

There will be more blog posts to come: some serious, some laid back and hopefully some that will make you laugh. I hope, where I can, to give an honest behind the scenes view on what we are doing at both a business and personal level.

Lastly a big thank you to all our jersey sponsors…
